Had a case head separation, possibly from an overload in a post-64 M70.

As you can see in the pic, the ejector was forced down and is probably caught in the spring.

Any ideas for how to remove it - other than drilling it out?

Best;
Brett

Well. Glaring, swearing, soaking and beating on it works one time in one hundred. I find that squaring it up in the mill and evicting it with a carbide spot drill works 100% of the time. It's certainly not something that I would personally attempt with a hand drill and a beer. Unless I had a new bolt on hand.

But that's just me and I'm sort of funny that way.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

My first line of attack is to remove the retainer pin, set it up in a vise with the lugs on the top of the jaws and start lightly tapping on the end of the ejector with a hammer and punch. If it's rusted or I just don't know why it's stuck, I'll soak it a while in penetrating oil first. You can probably skip that step since you know why it's stuck or do it anyway, what will it hurt. Keep at it. Sometimes I've got to tap a while before whatever has it bound up finally lets go.

I hope I'm not restating the obvious that you've already tried.

Soak in penetrating oil. Remove extractor to prevent damage. Use inertia and "mortar" (rap)the bolt face on a wooden block. Maybe that will break it loose. Failing that spray the ejector with liquid refrigerant and try again.I use a can of keyboard cleaner upside down.

I soaked in penetrating oil then lightly tapped with a punch. It took a while but it did come out.

Thanks so much for the help!!!

Numrich has them. This long winded link will get you there.

A trick to ordering from Numrich is to call the order # during their business hours. The recording will give you a 4 digit code. Use the code when ordering on line that day and you save $5 off of shipping.

Luckily, i was able to slick up the blind hole and plunger and it's now working perfectly. Smiler
