I've cut a lot of American walnut (Black) and this sure don't look like the stuff I'[ve used.....

looks more Turkish to me.....no difference.....it's very beautiful wood!

Nice blank. Juglans nigra is as good as any as long as it is dense with tight pores and layed out right. Looks more appropriate to me on an American classic like a M70 than Juglans reglia. I've had this blank for a long time, saving it for something special. It came out of a dry creek bed near Kerrville, TX and is denser than any blank I own, including alot of expensive Turkish:

that's some blank.. I noticed a lot a commercial blanks are sized heel to toe for an "american classic" style stock with very little drop at the toe.
