D HumbargerBrowning pump in 458?
A good friend wants a Browning pump rebarreled to 458 Winchester. Anybody have any experience rebarreling these things? Would certainly be a LOT quicker to cycle than a bolt gun & almost as fast as a double.

vapodogHey man.....a guy learns something every day.....I didn't know that Browning made a pump suited for centerfire rounds of rifle ammo.

jeffeossovapo,
it's the BPR, and they did them in everything to 300 win. perhaps even 338 win .. neat gun but a little heavy.
Doug, the barrel shank is VERY thin and the stock will have to be bedded where the rear of the action hits the buttstock.
I think the "natural" heaviness would be a good thing on a 458 pump. .. I have nearly done the 416 taylor on a BLR, for what's that's worth... it'll come, sooner or later

D Humbargerjeffe you mean the barrel shank is very thin where it fits into the receiver; am i right?
I've never seen one. Is the BPR receiver basically the same as the BAR receiver?

jeffeossoDoug,
Yes, the BPR and BAR as basically the same thing, as far as barrel and action are concerned. the BLR is a totally different thing.
here's a link to a the BPR manual. Look on page 6. in that particular photo, its actually hard to tell the diff
http://media.browning.com/pdf/om/bprmanual.pdfpage 9 shows an illustrive ONLY diagram
Here's the story... people wanted a pump, for whatever reason, and the BAR's operating stroke, like the pump "ARs" could be modified to be a pump rifle, and there it is.
btw, the rifle action is larger and heavier than what you think it would be, at first glance, just like the BAR
