This barrel is on an auction site and the seller doesn't know what it fits. It's supposed to be chambered for .257 roberts, but I can't think of any type of action where the bolt goes that far up into the barrel. It must be some sort of rear locking lug action like a 788 remington. Ever seen a barrel like this?

I haven't seen one, but that doesn't mean very much. There are several rifles out there that have rear locking lugs. The contenders I came up with quickly are the Rem 788 as you suggest, Shutz and Larson, Steyr Manlichers and the Golden Eagle. Interesting question. I'll look forward to hearing from the real rifle experts.

Weagle,

I asked a 788 question on 24HCF and was told that the 788 barrel shank specs are 1.00" diameter, 20 threads per inch, and 1.56" long (including the recoil lug). A 788 in 257 Robert would be fun, but I think that you'd need to use 6mm magazines and they are very expensive. I'm going to rebarrel my 788 to 260 with a used 700 barrel.

I thought Schultz/Larson when I first saw it......and no one has said anything so I'll now say it.....but I'm guessing too.

Thanks. It caught my eye because I'm in the market for a .257 roberts barrel. I'm sure it wouldn't fit anything that i'd be interested in, but it's listed over on ebay under "257 roberts" if anyone can use it.
