Picked up an old BSA rifle. I believe it is one of the Monarch models. It is in 7mm Rem mag cal so it is post 1962. It does not have the mauser type extractor. It has the side safety (not the safety on the bolt) The bolt would have had a guide rib on the bolt similar to the extractor on a mauser, so it is pre Herters U9 type action.(1965?)The groove in the bolt is 4 1/8 in from the front of the bolt and is 1/4 wide. The guide rib and the collar that holds it in place is missing. The collar is similar to the collar on a mauser that holds the extractor on the bolt only it is only 1/4 inch wide. Checked at Numrich and didn't see anything there. Anyone have any idea where I might find the collar and guide rib?? If I can't find the collar and guide rib I suppose the other option is to silver solder a 1/4 inch wide flat ring in the groove and polish it down smooth ,so the trigger doesn't catch on the groove. The bolt doesn't really need that guide rib. Does anyone have any idea where I might find the collar and guide rib for this old BSA? Has anyone else filled one of these grooves? Thanks for any input.

Did a little reading in the "Bolt Action Rifles" book by De Haas.On p 406- 410 they have an update on the CF2 model. The pictures shown on p 407 & 408 are the action I have, only the guide rib and collar are missing.

A good gunsmith who works mainly with rifle repairs and maintenance should be able to make you one of each part rather easily. All it really requires is the ability to make a weak spring (the collar) and to mill out a guide rib.

If I was still living in Alberta, I'd check Custom Gun Shop (Edmonton) and see if they still have someone who would be happy to do the work. They used to do that sort of thing all the time.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
