I bought a beater 11-48 in 12 gauge, to get a barrel with Carlson thin wall (Small Diameter) chokes. The price was fine just for the barrel, but I got the rest of the shotgun.

So I had to tinker. The previous owner probably was firing it without the friction ring. Split butt stock, action spring follower broken (didn't know they made these out of WOOD!!), firing pin broken and the operating handle has been beating on the receiver. Somehow that did not break.

So, I made a follower out of a piece of aluminum rod, I had a plastic 870 butt stock that I adapted, bought a new 3-1/16" stainless firing pin and I will pull a friction ring from another 11-48 until I see if it works.

I fiddled with that firing pin for half an hour before I figgured out that the old broken firing pin could be used as a slave pin from the front of the bolt to install the new firing pin. Then it took less than 1 minute to install.

Thank God I am not a gunsmith, I would starve. You guys earn your money.

good on you. I had to buy (on ebay) a bolt carrier. They are different enough that an 870 piece won't work.

870 and 58

I used love these "cheap" gun projects.

Now I leave them for others.

In the end a lot of them cost more then buying a working one.
