What type of mauser bolt fits a ZG47 (standard bolt face) and has anyone got one for sale?

A standard M98 bolt should fit, but there are other considerations like head spacing, lug contact, timing the safety and smooth operation. The trick will be to duplicate the bolt handle.

Was there something wrong with the ZG-47 you just bought?

If you cannot locate one in your area, send me a PM and I will give you the name and phone number of a man here in Oregon who will probably be able to supply you one in excellent condition at a good price. I have bought actions, barreled actions, and bolts from him and he is dependable and honest.

Don't think so (still in customs!) but I have found an action only that I would like to source a bolt for. The fact that it's been stripped means I can make a good working custom without worrying about spoiling a decreasing stock of these great rifles.

Good news. I think the hardest part is going to be finding a smith. Can you not find a M98 bolt over there without having to import one? Since it's just the action I wouldn't about keeping it original. Any M98 should work. Just have the lugs lapped, a new handle welded on a 3 position installed and you're on your way. I always wanted a custom .404 built off one of those actions.

Possibly. He is a gunsmith who retired recently after several years of specializing in Mausers. (A gunsmith, not a "Guild" level gunmaker.)

Last time I talked to him he was selling off the last 50 or so of his actions...that was a few months ago. Another fellow has asked about bolts from him, and I am trying to find the slip of paper I had his name and phone number on. I had it in front of me yesterday, but have been gone since then 'til about 2 hours ago, and right now can't find jack-sh-t (jackshot?...something like that). killpc

If you want to drop me a pm, then as soon as I can relocate that slip of paper, I'll send the info to you.
