Is it possible alter a 300H&H Mag. to chamber the 300WbyMag? As I understand it the only thing separating the two is the shape of the case, with the H&H being smaller in every aspect.

No Problem, just be sure you do not increase the headspace when the belt cutter on the reamer comes close to the existing cut.

Or set the barel back a turn and then yuo can push ahead where you wnat it.

Yes it is possible, and it was done to a great many 300 H&H pre-64 Model 70's. I even saw an ad for one that stated you could use 300 Weatherby or 300 H&H ammo in it!
