A couple years ago or so I purchased a Mauser built by Hervey Lovell. It was stocked by J B Mc Cament or Mc Coment who resided in Texas City, Texas. The metal work was for the stock maker. I have 2 letter from Mr. Lovell to JB about it. It is in 22 Varminter. I received the brass and dies also. Sure looks like a 22-250. My main interest is in the stockmaker.
Any help for me?

This rifle was built in 1941. Could be a Son, maybe?

I do believe in those days a 22 Varminter was what we now call 22-250.

LouisB,
I believe it is the predecessor of the 22-250. Some of my 22-250 chambers well in it.

There is a gentleman named Ron Freshour who builds guns and is in Texas City. He may have heard of the person you are looking for, and if not I bet he probably knows some old guys who do.

Yes, Jay McCamet has been in Washington State for a long time. He graduated from High School with my mother 62 years ago. I competed against his marching band in conference competition in my High School days. First met the man officially at 2003 ACGG Banquet as a new Regular Member. The world really got small then.

Dennis Earl,
That could make him about the right age to be J.B.'s Son. I will try to contact Freshour and question him.
Thanks very much for all the help.
