I'm new to this site. My brother recomended I try you guys with a problem I'm having with my Remington model 700 Mountain.

When sighting in this year with my brother, i had a problem with the magazine droping out of the rifle when a shot was fired. I thought that because i was using shooting sticks for the 1st time, I might have been compressing the two release buttons on each side of the magazine. unfortunatley, when i was shooting offhand, it did the same thing. I took the gun home lubricated it well, and when i went hunting, made sure it was engaged well. When i finally got a shot at a buck, I was sitting down and well positioned. I took the shot and the magazine dropped again.

Any thoughts on how i can fix this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

The first thing that comes to mind would be to recommend contacting Remington and letting them address the problem. But the gunsmith in me would...

While looking for a box to ship the gun back to the factory in, try this. Pull the trigger guard assembly from the gun and snap the magazine box in place and look to see that both latches engage completely and that there is a "little" vertical play in the magazine when latched. Next with the trigger guard back in the gun, look to make sure that the stock does not extend below the bottom edge of the guard thereby preventing the magazine from going in far enough to completely engage the latch hooks.

Thanks westpac. I'll try both those routes.

Although the thought of shipping it back isn't exactly apealing. I've taken more than a few deer with it, and wouldn't be happy to lose it.

Thanks, again.
