What fits in the CZ 527 or Mini Mauser

I have probably posted this here before a while back, but wanted to know what people have tried to do with these little actions. What can you fit in there? I don't want to put a short magnum in one, but I would like something with just a bit more snort than the standard 7.62x39. Ideal would be reaming out an improved or PPC version, but I'd be happy with a .308x1.5" or 7BR or something like that. Anybody tried it? On another thread months ago somebody suggested a .357 Max, which was an interesting idea but probably not quite what I need. Thanks.

7.62x45 looks like an interesting idea. It would be a minimum hassle conversion and give you a bit more oomph.

If that would be ideal, then you've answered your own question. Go for it.

I kinda like the idea myself. Let us know where you find the reamers and who does the work.

The 6x45 is a nifty cartridge that works well on these actions.

If you get a CZ then depending on the bolt face you choose either something on the PPC or 223 case would be the easiest converson. How about the .257 Kimber It's a blown out .222 mag case with a sharp shoulder or mabey neck up a PPC case to 7mm or .30 cal.

Leftover, 7.62x45 would be fine for me, but I don't think you could convert a 7.62x39 chamber to that (assuming by 45 mm you are referring to a .223 case). Or is there a 45mm case on a PPC bolt face that I don't know about? For a rebarrel job, I would probably go to the PPC case...but the TCU jobs would certainly be worth a look. Shawnie Tool offers a .30 PPC reamer, if anybody is interested.

Maybe the question for your guys is: Can I convert a 7.62x39 chamber to a ".311 PPC" with a .30 PPC reamer?

I was working on a wildcat for the largest practical cartridge for a minitature Mauser, but have been stalled due to the import barriers Charles Daly is facing. You can search the Big Bore section here under ".416 The Americas Stalker" for some background on the cartridge. If you are interested and have a Mark X Mini Mauser action I would be happy to provide any information you want on my round.

The various "mini Mausers" differ both in action type and size.

The CZ527 is limited to the PPC or 7.62X39 (.440-.445") head sized cases and not much longer COL than 2.25". The 7.62X45 Czech is about as large as the little CZ can handle short of very specialised cases like the .50 Beowulf that Brockman's does in one.

The out of production modified minature Mauser Sakos and Kimbers are of intermediate size. These can handle any rounds the CZ can and perhaps the .25 to .35 Remington series.

The Mark X Mini Mauser is the largest of the minis and one of the three versions is for .473 head sized cases and can take COL of up to 2.4. This action can be used with the .416 TAS that I am developing, the .250 and .300 Savages, and the IHMSA handgun silouhette series in 6.5 to .35 versions.

One caveat for all these small actions is that with many of these rounds bullet length has to be short since the actions require COLs shorter than standard for the cartridge.

Pandy,

7.62x45 is/was a Czech miltary cartridge. Surplus ammo is available at $25@100 and reloadable cases are makeable or can be bought converted. It's basically a stretched 7.62x39.

I really don't know much more about it than that, but were I in your situation, I'd certainly take a hard look at it. It's got the right head size and will fit in your action. Might have to have the barrel set back a thread or two to clean up the existing chamber, might not. It's got a good bit more case capacity than the 7.62x39 and, in a good bolt rifle, might come close to .300 Savage ballistics.

35 rem, which would be PERFECT
30 whisper
30 rem
7 (various silloete versions)
7.62 ppc ( i doubt your barrel is .311, btw. Ruger made the mini 30 in .308)
25ppc would be AWESOME (yep, 25) then you can use hunting bullets
6ppc, pretty darn good
22k hornet
222 mag
480 ruger? (there's a thought)
7.62x25 (mauser).. i had thought about doing this on a spanish destroyer carbine

lots of interesting things, I would probably do a 35 rem, and have a nifty gun. 158gr pistol bullets at 2600 for varmits and small game (fmj for small game) Heck, even 110g .356 bullets running close to 300 fmj for small game. 200 grains at 2000-2100... interesting.

I think the largest caliber that fits in the CZ-527 is the .50 Beowolf.

Jim Brockman does them with a detachable box magazine that's plumb cute!!
