Anybody out there have the book Gun Digest assembly/disassembly part 3, rimfires?? I figured out with help from here that what I need is the disassembly instructions for the Ithaca Model 49 single shot. I'd really appreciate it! Red

Red I have it at home, I'll get back to you tonight or tommorow with the directions. Any special area/question, or do you need the entire thing?

Thanks a lot. I probably need the whole instruction on the model 49, from what I found on the internet it is finicky in the disassembly and if the steps are done in the right order it won't come apart. wish the person that had wrote that had put down what the order was. Red

Take out the screw at the bottom of the barrel band and remove the band towarrd the front. Drift out the small cross pin in the mag tube stop (looks to be about 2" back from the front sight) and slide the mag tube forward. Remove the forend downward and slide the tube out of the loop toward the rear. Take care not to lose the small plastic cap at the end of the tube. It is a friction fit, and may come out as the tube is removed. Take off the buttplate and remove the stock mounting bolt (B-square tool, 3/8 socket or long screwdriver). Take off the stock to the rear (Hey, I'm just copying what it says. TG). Grip the stock mounting stud firmly with leather-padded pliers and unscrew it from the receiver. Take out the hammer spring toward the rear, and take care not to lose the lock washer on the neck of the stud. Drift out the lever pivot pin, towards the right. Note: check the pin for knurling, some early ones had the knurl to the left, and these should be removed to the left. Remove the lever downward, and remove the trigger spring and plunger from the lever base. Remove the bolt spring plunger, bolt spring and bolt bivot lock plungr from the hole in the bottom of the lower lobe of the bolt. The lower plunger and spring should come out easily. If the upper plunger is reluctant, hold the receiver right side up and move the large bolt pivot gently from side to side. If this fails, give the receiver a few light taps with a plastic mallet. With the spring and both plungers removed, the bolt pivit pin can be easily pushed either side. Failure to remove the upper plunger first can result in damage to the pivot, receiver and plunger. That covers the first 7 steps, and what appears to be the trickest bits. I'll post more later.

Step 8 Remove the breachblock (bolt) from the top of the receiver. Restrain the firing pin spring, on the left side, to prevent it's escape, as it is held in place only by the inside wall of the receiver. Step 9 is a photo showing the firing pin, return spring and lock pin in their proper positions. The curve on the FP nose is facing up, the lock pin is in the cross slot and the spring is between the LP and the tail of the firing pin. Drift out the hammer and trigger piviot pins toward the right. Remove the hammer and hammer spring strut toward the top, and the trigger from the bottom. Use a Allen wrench of the proper sie to remove the ejector trip spring from the bottom front of the receiver and take out the spring and plunger. Drift out the large cross pin at the front of the receiver, towards the right. Depress the ejector trip to ensure that it is disenguaged from the ejector, and remove the ejector and its spring toward the rear. The large cross pin also retains the barrel. Drift out the smaller cross pin, toward the right, to release the ejector trip, and use a large hardwood dowel (or other non-marring tool) to prevent damage while driving the barrel out forward. The ejector trip can than be removed from inside the receiver. Re-assembly tips When replacing the breachblock pivot, remember that the retaining plunger groove must be on the right side of the receiver. When replacing the retaining plunger in the bottom of the breachblock, remember that the shorter plunger with the flat ends goes in first. The longer plunger with one rounded end goes in at the bottom, with the rounded end downward. As the plungers and spring are installed, move the breachblock pivot slightly from side to side, to ensure that the top plunger enters its groove. Keep the gun inverted while installing the lever, to avoid losing the spring and plungers from their hole in the breach block. Remember to insert all cross pins from right to left, because the knurled ends will have slightly expanded the holes in the right side. When replacing the dummy mag tube, be sure the groove for the cross pin is at the top, and aligned with the hole in the hanger loop before driving in the pin. Hope that helps.
