Please excuse my ignorance, but could you all tell me a resonable source for used actions to build rifles from? The cost of firearms around here has gotten out of hand to the point that it is hard to justify buying one to tear down and build back up. I have seen some real junk that you wwould thing were made of gold. This is a hobby for me, and I do not want so much tied up that if I screw up I am out too much.

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?

What actions are you looking for?

Gun shows are still a prime place to find actions and look for rifles that have been badly cared for or have fallen from a horse scabbard.

I have Rem 700 rifles for well under $400 and these are action rifles but can be easily used as is!

If you want CRF M-70 actions I think prices will run $550 and up and some WAY up.

I still have several VZ-24 actions but they casn be found for less at the shows.....you must look a lot to get good deals on actions but it's doable for those that look at a lot of used gun racks.

Bear in mind that a lot of new Rem 700 rifles now retail for slightly over a grand!!!

You can try these people listed below;

http://www.samcoglobal.com/rifles.html

If you have a C & R License, you can order from these folks direct (as long as it is a complete firearm) or you can have them ship what you want to a dealer. A C & R License can be had for $30 and an application to the ATFE. It will allow you to buy any firearm classed as Curio & Relic (Almost all military Mauser 98's and P-14/P-17 Enfields, etc.).
