A good name is very important and I think both Winchester & Remington got it wrong when they used the word "short" in the name of their new cartridges. Who wants to have a "short" anything?

Just think if Winchester had been a bit smarter...imagine these names.... the .270 O'Connor, the 7mm Page, the .338 Keith, etc. Can't think of a name for the .300WSM ... any suggestions?...maybe the .300 American? We could also have a .375 Selous or Zambezi.

What do you think? Anything metric we could call "....Atkinson"

How about the 7.965723 Boddington
As long as he was paid to promote it, it would be the ultimate rifle for Guineafowl, Ele and warthogs

Yea the .300 Reagan!

I got into a letter writing argument with Ken Waters about 40 years ago. I still object to the fact that he got a cartridge named after himself and the ones mentioned here did not. Of course he is a good rifle guy and so is Boddington but the others are really famous.

How about these:
30/01
300 Win Mag 2.0
WinMag 2001
300 Hubbard Magnum (space telescope)
7.62 Winchester
or just name it after me
300 Oddball!
Not that I can claim any credit for development or even owning one. But what the heck! Why not?

Maybe it would be easier if everybody used the metric designation. I recently bought a 9,5x72 BR myself
