[Confused] Re-Post from Pistol Shooting Forum
[Confused]
Hello All,
I need some help as soon as anyone can possibly spare a few minutes.

I'm going to the range tomorrow with a lady friend that has a Glock 23 (.40 S&W). She's fired it before (maybe 300-500 rounds) and has not cleaned it yet. She may have pushed a few oily swabs down the barrel but that would be the most I could hope for.

I don't have a Glock and it's been years since I've field stripped one and it's all a vague memory at this point.

Can someone PLEASE walk me through the process of field stripping this pistol? I seem to remember removing mag and verifying and empty pistol, then pulling the slide back to a point while keeping downward pressure on the two serrated 'buttons' on either side to release the slide. But I'm not sure if this is right and if it is how far back does the slide need to come back? Is there an index mark anywhere? Then re-assembly?

I know this is a knucklehead post but I really need to get this gun apart tomorrow afternoon (and then back together) while showing the owner how this is done.

I hate to resort to begging but I've searched the web with no luck and Glock's web site doesn't seem to have any on-line manuals to d/l.

I would truly appreciate any knowledgeable help on what should be a relatively simple procedure.

Thanks in advance for reading this plea for help and any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
XWind (feeling pretty stupid at this point) [Confused]

XWind-

Drop magazine. Verify that gun is unloaded. Repeat. Repeat again [Smile]

Point in safe direction and pull trigger. Pull slide back about 1/8" and hold, pull down on the "buttons" on the sides of the frame, and ease slide forward off the gun. Recoil spring assembly and barrel virtually fall out.

For re-assembly, put barrel and recoil spring assembly back in slide (make sure the end of the guide rod is seated into the half-moon cutout in the barrel) and slide the slide back on until it locks into place. Easy [Cool]

Hope that helps.

Best,
Joe

Many thanks Joe and apologies to everyone for tying up space for such a dumb question.

Enjoy Memorial Day and remind everyone what this 'day off' represents.

Cheers,
Xwind

A old man with poor memory and 100 guns needs to remember about the Glocks: Take down requires a pulled trigger.
