You know how it is.....not sure about something and don't want to risk a M-70 classic magnum action.

I've been waiting to find someone to open my 338 Mag to the 375 H&H length and finally I realized it wasn't going to happen. Elcabelero gave me the name of his smith and I called him and he was kind and direct...he hadn't done it.

So I looked it over and said...WTF...worst thing is I can ruin a few parts and have to replace them.....

Off to the milling machine where I removed the spacer in the rear of the magazine stamping. I endmilled four holes to break thru the spotwelds and presto....the spacer fellout!

Then I removed exactly the thickness of the spacer from the end of the ejector and the bolt stop and milled one millimeter from a protrusion in the action that the magazine rests on.....reassembled the thing and it's feeding and ejecting 375 H&H ammo perfectly.

Why I couldn't do this months ago I don't know.....just had to do it I guess.

I'm sure I'll discover soon why some mill away a bit from the rear bridge but it's not clear yet.

Hell....this was a cakewalk!!!

Yep fist couple I did that way. Next ones I just bought the three new parts and sold the old ones.

Only issue I've ever seen by not opening the gap is during loading. The loaded round must go in point first and down. Not just straight down. Might be an issue if something big wanted to eat you are someone was shooting back. Never an issue for me.

As usual just my $.02

You can machine out the rear receiver bridge and properly drill/tap the rear bridge. Don't froget to bevel the right had wall of the rear bridge to allow for better ejection.

It’s just that much more of the cartridge to have to “swing†around or out from under the rear bridge. Just because it feeds doesn’t mean its right. On the other hand if it suits you and works who cares? Only if you had something down range of the muzzle that could bight back would it really matter.

You could have always asked me to borrow the one I have to look at and copy. You know, the one that was in the fire. Big Grin You could have copied those Receiver cuts into your classic, thereby giving it that Pre-64 look.
