Anyone have experience with building a 9.3X64 on an FN action? Any special tricks needed to get it to feed properly? Seems like alot of people on this site revere the 9.3X62 and 64 and I have a good 30-06 FN action to make one on and so wonder if there are any special concerns with the Mag Box, bolt Face etc.? Barrels are available from Pac-Nor in 1:12 twist although most people seem to want 1:10. Any bullet/load information would also be appreciated.-Rob

Just pretend you are building a beltless magnum. A nice touch is to use Ted Blackburn's bottom metal, for a wider box, better feeding, and additional cartridge capacity.

Great action to build a 9.3x64 on. I used a new Win. Classic for mine. Bolt face was opened up and the feed rails tuned slightly. Mag was unaltered and holds 4. Follower was shaped for the 64mm. I get over 2800fps(clocked) with Speer's 270 gr, about 2700 with Nosler's 286 Part., and about 2520 with 286gr. Barnes X out of a 25" bbl. .375 Ouch&Ouch performance (better actually) in a standard length action. Brass availability may force you to build a 62mm; I had no trouble getting RWS brass from Germany.

500grains- Yes I'm in the process of building a 500A2. I started with a new.416 CZ550 from which I've pulled the barrel and have trued and lapped the lugs on the action. I'm waiting for the barrel from Pac-Nor to arrive as well as the JGS reamer and Headspace guages. I called Pac-Nor yesterday and it now looks like Dec. for the barrel. So far I've made up an oversized tapered barrel lug and sleeve upon which I'm going to mount some express sights.Pac-Nor is contouring the barrel to my dimensions so the sleeve should easily fit. Before I convert the Lathe over for Metric threading I thought I'd barrel a FN action I have laying around for 9.3X64. I'm also sending the original .416 barrel to Cliff Labounty to be re-rifled into a 470 for a 470Mbogo on the same action. This should keep me out of the bars for awhile-Rob

I have built a dozen or so of them on FN actions and Mauser actions..Open them up in back about 40 thousands with a file, I can almost do that with my fingernail. Sometimes rail work will be needed, but not often and very little. Sometimes you may have to open the bolt face a smidgion, all this depends on how much good slop or how much bad slop you have in the Mauser action...Slop is good in a battle or DGR rifle...

I looked at the dimensions of the 9.3X64 last night and you are right Ray, that the Mag box will have to be opened a bit. looks like about .040 should do. The bolt face on my 30-06 action also will need a small amout of opening. Otherwise it looks fine.-Rob
