Broomhandle barrel reline
Apparently the chinese ever heard of cleaning a gun when using corrosive ammo.
Mine is a smoothbore 30 mauser.
In the old days there was an outfit in Florida that did relines.

Now I see only Redman's offering the service. Any others out there.

I'm thinking 9mm just for the ammo availability.
Any thoughts, suggestions?

One would think fitting a 9mm line to such would be fairly easy.

I don’t know about easy.

I have a C96. It’s in .30 Mauser. The barrel is pretty thin, so no idea if lining it and boring it out to 9 is reasonable.

I’d assume it’s kind of touchy given the odd dimensions of the frame.

Hope you get an answer and a lead on who will do it- they sure aren’t making more of them.

I have done them; you don't reline them; you cut them off and put a liner in the frame, which contains a new barrel contour forward of the hex part.
Sort of relining. The frame is no problem because the 7.65 is/was the same as 9mm.

dang, bad day for me - Tom, the 7.62 mauser/25 is the same BODY as the lugar, but the case is 25mm long, not 19mm - the 9 largo (9x23) is the same case as the 30 mauser, expanded - i made a destroyer cabine in 30 mauser/7.62x25 - the rounds fit in the 9 largo mags perfectly

Yes, I meant the case head and body, so it still fits the bolt face, and does work in the mag.

'Luger Man' relines C96 bbls to either 30cal or 9mm.
Some guns he will only do a replacement bbl when stepping up to 9mm if the orig bbl dia is not large enough.

Thanx, I knew someone out there had some info.

Cheapest way to go is to throw the money I gave to help out a friend in the trash and go on.

At least I can recover some money out of the ammo!

One of the C96 variations was a 9mmLuger caliber conversion done by cutting the 30cal bbl off ahead of the action flats.
Then boring and threading the piece for a common Luger pistol bbl.

Luger pistol bbls are not all that common in the wild anymore but there may be some around. Maybe some repros around(?)
Then how much would a 'smith that does rebbl'g work charge for the changeover.
If I remember right the Luger Bbl extractor cut needs to be widened. The feed ramp fits nearly perfectly with little work needed.

The type of work DPCD is talking about

I have never heard anything bad about Redman's, but have never used them. Years ago I bought a C96 that had been rebored/rebuilt by a company called EBCO. Not the same company that makes a proprietary single shot rifle. Sold the gun and paperwork that came with it years ago, so that is all I have. They might have been located in Ill.

I had Redmans rebore a Bolo Mauser to 9mm about 30 years ago and it's still going strong. I shoot it about once every three months or so.
