McMillan stock color options

I'm getting ready to order a stock from McMillan for my prone competition rifle. The stock details are pretty much settled, but I still need a "color". Their website says "endless possibilities" of molded-in colors. However, they don't have many varities in the pictures on their website. I've seen plenty of McMillans, but most are either painted a solid color, or have molded-in camo patterns. As this is not a hunting rifle, I don't want camo.

Does anybody have any good links (or pictures of personal rifles) that I could use as reference? I realize that the "swirl" is basically one-of-a-kind on each stock, but maybe I could find a color combination that looks good.

I don't want over-the-edge wild, but something that would look good on a match rifle...

Thanks!

Much appreciated, as I've had much the same dilemma the last day or two. I've had several McMillan stocks on match rifles but they were all one-color boring. I didn't really care though.

This latest one's for a McBros .50 and will cost a bundle, so I may as well pick out something cool.

Cold Bore, let us know what you decide upon!

I like the blck/white ore brown/white kombinations. It looks pretty classy and isnt to bright.

The guys that do the stocks make the pattern with their fingers in the mold and the "marble effect" comes when the rubber tube is inflated inside the mold to compress the laminate.

I think McMillan have a "non return rule" on the pattern. You have to live with it, or pay the cost to return the stock and get another one.

Talk to the people on McMillan. If the workload isnt thru the roof they useally are WERY helpfull!

The rule on stocks with special colors is if you don't like it they will paint it black for free.

Hi Cold Bore,

Check out this web site and it should give you an idea of some of the colors available. They might even be able to get the stock you want. The web site is http://www.scopeusout.com/

I hope this helps out some, The Big Dog

Cold Bore,

When I ordered my McMillan stock for my Rem 788 varmint rifle I had them make RED as the base color and Black/White for the swirleys. Pick the color you want for the primary and then the other 2 colors for the secondary. I was pleased.

Thanks for the tips guys! I finally just settled on a red/white/blue swirl. (I just finished a 2 year Guard activation, and this was a "present to myself" for completing it, so the colors kinda seemed appropriate...).

I ordered it at the end of last week, now I just get to sit & wait for a few months...

If you order a Hart catalogue they have a couple pages of McMillan stocks in quite a few different colors. I purchased one a few years ago in the fibergrain pattern, and noone has yet been able to tell that it's not walnut. It's called the Sako pattern, and is a good solution for us wood lovers. Best wishes.
