Mauser mods for 9.3x62

I was just wondering what kind of modifications are needed to the receiver / feed rails for a 9.3x62? I'm using a Brazilian action (1908) that has somewhat wider rail spacing, tapering towards the front of the receiver -- like a VZ-24, and unlike all the other SA actions / Argentines that I've handled. What about OAL of the cartridge and mag box compatibility?

Any other quirks of this round that apply to Mauser 98's?

Thanks,
Todd

Todd, I have assembled a couple of 9.3x62 rifles on VZ 24's and they feed perfectly. I have a couple of 1908's in the vault, I will run some 9.3x62 cartridges through one and get back to you, but my first hunch is it will feed fine. Remember, the 9.3x62 was designed for a standard 98 and should work in most.

The 9.3x62 has fed in all Mausers that I have used it on...with no changes in rails or ramp...I do polish the rails as a matter of course on all mausers...

John & Ray

Thanks for the information -- that's just what I hoped to hear, should save me some $$$ in action work; essentially the only mods I will need then are bolt handle, drill & tap, and chamber.

I can't wait to get started, unfortunately I will have to for a while.

Thanks,
Todd

I just fed some 9.3x62 rounds through a 1909 Arg. & a VZ24, smooth as silk.

Thanks for your input & testing.

I like the idea of this round in my Brazilian, as I've said here before it just seems like Mausers need British/metric rounds.

Best,
Todd

Well my own 09 9.3x62 needs some work - a better shaped follower I suspect. As is with sunny hill mag box and standard rounds the shoulder of the top case bears against the rails but the rear is left unsupported allowing it to be underneath the bolt when the bolt is cycled. I used to think this was for the fourth and top round only but the other day it failed to pick up the third round. It is cured by loading with 3 rounds only and taking care when making ready.
