I'm making a hunting rifle from a czech Mauser. I've got most of the minor metal done but I sure would like to replace the military ejector/bolt stop with something slimmer and smaller. Are there any after-market parts? Instructions for making one? Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Speaking as a user - rather than a builder - the ejector on a bolt action is probably the smallest part of a bolt action and it receives the most stress and abuse. That is why the M-98 ejector is built the way it is. In my experience the flat spring ejector that Browning/FN put on their Mauser rifles is probably the slimmest and lightest and it looks like it could be fabricated if you can't find an original. I never really liked the looks of the old Browning FN but that is just me. While I have no problems with the basic 98 release I have seen them with the tab machined off and then the front tip checkered. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Guess that I am confused, bolt release or ejector stop. Most ejector stops are about the same, military or commercial. The bolt release handle is different between military and commercial and different between makers/vintage. For a smaller lighter bolt release I used an Argentine curved over the action body easy to find with a scope mounted. The actual ejector stop is just a flat blade that it is not seen.

I have used the FN style extractor several times on military style actions including Mausers & P-14/17s with success. I obtained mine through a local smith via FN parts. However it does take away from the classic look of a Mauser & will not likely do it again. In fact if it was possible I would install a "regular" extractor on my FN. --- John 303.

Thanks, The FN style was what I was looking for. Wish I could find one. Grizzly

I am not positive, but I think the Remington 798/Charles Daly parts were made from the same FN tooling sold to Serbia. See gunbroker and e-bay. The ejector sure looks alike from the outside, on the one FN I have compared. I am not sure if the FN was cherry.
