I've been thinking of .338 RUM for my next caliber. I would like to buy a used rifle and put on a good heavy barrel and trigger. Not a BR, just a hunting rifle with some bench mods for a little extra accuracy. I'll keep the factory trigger for hunting if the aftermarket is too light. From a gunsmith's point of view, what action if any should I stay away from? Is there any other calibers that don't need any mods to accomadate the .338 RUM? I can buy a NEW Savage in 300 RUM cheaper than a used Remington. Never done anything like this before so any advice would be appreciated.

The savage will be the best bet, as you can get a new trigger/stock and still be cheaper than a good barrel.. that MIGHT shoot as well as the savage does jeffe

I was also wondering if there is any out there that just aren't strong enough to handle the power as well as a heavy 26" barrel hanging of the end of it.
