To all those in this forum much more knowledgeable than I, I pose the question whether a Remington factory barrel thread compatible with the newer Win M-70 action CRF? I know a cut would have to be made for the extractor. Second, has anyone attempted this and how much would such a project cost, if feasible. Yes, I am on a budget. Thanks in advance, Joe in Houston

Joe, If the rumors I've read regarding the increase of the thread diameter on the new M70s is true (and I have seen no confirmation of this), then the Remington tenon is indeed the same diameter and pitch. However, the tenon of the remington is much longer than that of the Winchester Approximately .875 vs. .735. So, in fitting the remigton barrel to the Winchester, it would be necessary to establish the correct headspace by using a spacer ahead of the receiver. Once the lengthand, therefor, the headspace was correct, the extractor cut could be made. Things would be far from ideal though. The Remington bolt face resides approximately flush with the end of the barrel while the M70 bolt face is rougly .025" in. This means you would have no coned breech and excessive protrusion of the cartridge case. Nothing like the intent of the design of either rifle. So the best bet would be to cut the tenon to the correct length, extend the thread and cut the coned breech then deepen the chamber to achieve the correct headspace measurement. If the thread diameter of the M70 is as it always has been (1x16tpi) you would have to rethread in any case. Good luck. Regards, Bill.
