Just the last details as I get my rifle closer to being done....next year.

Question:
On your new custom rifle, with it's deep luxurious blued finish, what scope finish would you prefer???

Choices:
glossy
matte

I prefer the gloss Leupold finish simply because it is easier to keep wiped clean. Bead blasted matte (non-directional) does not appeal to me.
However a steel tube scope finished matte like an early Mauser would be the tops in appearance.

I think if one of the mfg's came up with some sort of a semi gloss finish there might be some takers.

I am a contrarian sometimes but must say I too, prefer the matte finish.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

I think I can live with that since I am sure someone else did just the opposite out of evil. Over the long run the statistics of such a vote will rule it out.

Plus one.

But the rifle's owner is the one who needs to decide, it is not a rifle democracy here.

I strip my scope and have it prepped and reblued in the tank at the same time as the other metal work and mounts.

Completely seamless.

I HATE seeing good customs with a leupold just chucked on top in a set of rings that are normaly far too high.

looks like I will be trying a set of new dials from Leupold as they put them out on a trial basis. I think that means matte. maybe the rings need to be transitional from matte to glssy near the bases.

I would look for a good steel tubed scope like a Swarowski, S&B, Helia or Ziess in a classic size like 6x42 or perhaps a 1,5-6x342 and then have the bluing redone on the scope if it´s not up to par with the rifle.

Steel tubes rule oin classics.

I ran with the gloss Leupold with a German #4 rect and BDC to my load. Sorry, but in the end someone close made too much sense to not go against the grain here...
