I just put a new Hogue overmolding rifle stock on my Ruger M77 II. The screws will not stay tight at all. They loosened without firing and really loosened after the recoil of a few rounds. This problem did not occur with the original factory stock. I think perhaps the screws are too short with the new stock, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ______________________ I'm not a great hunter...just a guy who loves to hunt.

I'd guess your hitting rubber somewhere. I doubt screw lenght is the problem. I'd make sure everything fits. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

Gringo Cazador, How do I make sure everything fits? Where would I be hitting rubber? ______________________ I'm not a great hunter...just a guy who loves to hunt.

Is use of glue practical? I have nil experience with synthetic stocks but I always apply Loctite (nr 503 maybe...I´ll check) when mounting scopes and it works nicely.

I'd use browneslls inletting gold, or lip stick or something to leave a mark on the stock and find out where it was binding up, if thats the problem, which I guess it was, but I've been wrong before. I had to knock the recoil lug over on a rem once to get one to fit plus open up the barrel channel some. If you can't figure it out, call hogue, they can walk you thru it. Update on my problem. I had bought a Hogue stock for my Ruger M77 Mark II and the bedding screws were coming loose. I called Hogue and they sent me a new stock which I thought was rather good of them. I put the new one on and here is the situation: I tighten the screws and the front screw is loose about 8 hours later. The weird thing is that the SCREW IS IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION AND HASN'T MOVED, but still turns about a quarter of a turn. I am certain that I tightened very well. I have tested it several times and it keeps happening. Any ideas? ______________________ I'm not a great hunter...just a guy who loves to hunt.

if it was mine, I would get me some inlettng gold from brownells or red lip gloss or lip stick or something and smear it all over the metal, put it to gether and find out where it's binding, I'd bet a dollar to a donut thats the problem, you got rubber in the way somewhere, but I may be wrong. My experience with Hogue technical support leads me to believe they are one of the most knowledgeable in the business, have you tried talking to them? Did you get the stock with the full bedding block or the standard one? Like the other responses, I think it most likely is just mashing down some rubber somewhere but the best thing to do is simply call Hogue and ask them. http://www.getgrip.com/main/support/support.html has all the contact info, they also have a FAQ that might answer your question too. for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Three cheers for Hogue. After sending me a brand new stock, my rifle shot great. Better than ever. Hogue stood by their product and what a great product it is. For the first time since I bought this rifle I am confident in its accuracy. Thanks to all for their advice and thoughts on this matter. I had written previously that I couldn't get the screws to tighten. After tightening them several times they finally stayed put. I shot 16 rounds thorough the rifle and the screws did not budge. Also, my groups tightened considerably over those shot using the factory stock. ______________________ I'm not a great hunter...just a guy who loves to hunt.
