Guys

I'd love to see some if you have any, especially full blown custom jobs.

I've had an interest in commisioning the building of one for a long time now. I am thinking of using my Kimber .22 action as a basis and going from there. Was thinking hollowed out quarter rib, banded sling base and foresite, bottom metal like a miniature mauser with port for flush mounted mag, custom bolt handle, square bridges for either worked over talley or smithson rings, a really nice piece of wood in a classic shape, a bit of scroll engraving here and there and the lot rust blued.

Any of you have anything like that you could post photos of?

Cheers.

Look at last Months Precision Shooting. A very nice mod 52 on the cover. Very nice wood and looks like a custom centerfire.

It's not a bolt action but here's one I did many years ago. Regards, Joe

I think your idea is wonderful! I've done several 1922 Springfields and prewar 22LR Mausers as well as one 52 Win and some Martini Cadets, and as you also see here, the low wall is one of my favorite actions for a RF.

The pictured low wall has an engraved belly trap holding extra cartridges, prewar Winchester Super Grade swivels with barrel band front swivel base, bench-made band ramp front sight, repro Winchester Deluxe hard rubber buttplate and grip cap, ebony forend tip, close-coupled double-set triggers, Shilen sporter-weight barrel with a number of accuracy mods, gold-bordered scroll engraving by the celebrated Ken Hurst, Lyman 103 tang sight and an 8x Unertl 1" Target (not pictured).

Am doing another 22RF low wall right now but it will look a little different. Slimmer forearm, tighter grip curve, less comb nose, bench-made lever, single-set trigger, 1/2 octagon bbl with breech tulip and quarter-rib, juglans regia sporter stocks with double-hook pancake cheekpiece, etc etc. Kinda like one of Steve Hughes' low walls (but not as well-made, G).

Sorry I don't have pics of the others, this is the only one I've kept.
Regards, Joe

And don't forget this ACGG project:

About as "full blown" as it gets.

The March cover of Precision Shooting has a good picture of a 40X in a nice stock with peep sight and banded front sight.

I can post photos of my Win 52 that is in progress. It is currently at Dean Zollingers who is doing the following:

fitting quarter rib and express sights
banded front sight
barrel band sling swivel
adding a rear tang and converting to tang safety
reshaping the rear of the receiver a bit
alter factory stock into pattern stock in the classic "express" style

Mike McCabe did an amazing job with the new bolt handle and doing the custom bottom metal.

Shane Thompson will do the 1:1 stock duplication once Zollinger finishes his work.

The barrel is a Shilen. Rings and bases are Warne Premier lever QD, and the scope is a Leupold VX-II 2-7.

Excellent stuff guys - thanks for all your thoughts, info and photos.

I'm in Australia and I don't think I've ever seen a Precision Shooting mag . If anyone can scan the cover of the one in question that would be great. Thanks.

J.D., love the low wall, prefer bolt actions but you made a nice job of that from what I can see.

M1 keep the photos of the Mod 52 coming as the work is done as it sounds like it will be a good nice rifle when completed.

And Michael - what can I say - beautiful. It's obviously another '52 but can you give some more detail please?

There is a real beauty on page 15 of SDH's black and white book on custom rifles. Does anyone have any colour photos of that rifle?

Keep 'em coming men!! Smiler

Thanks Steve, your a legend. I've really liked that rifle for many years and to see some more of its detail and in colour is a real treat.

Any idea how much it weighed?

Cheers.

You're very welcome GG, I photographed the rifle many, many years ago and have no recollection of its weight.
Best,
Steve

Do screw-together 10-22s count? Mine has a Tactical Innovations billet receiver, Kidd trigger, Volquartsen bolt, Clark (or Clarke) Custom barrel with a Shrewd muzzle brake machined on and is set in a Revival Industries lefthand thumbhole stock. I have about $1600 in it.

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

John Maxson had a 40X on the cover of Precision Shooting on the March 2009 cover and I believe he had the double square bridge Mod 52 on the Jan. 2009 issue cover with a 3 pos safety on it. They are both beautiful rifles. I wish I knew how to get them to this forum.

You are killing me Michael. You mean to tell me there are 2 Shelhamer stocked Kornbrath engraved 52's out there that I have to find? Which one is pictured in Roy Dunlaps Gunsmithing book? The first one I believe.
