Hello to all,
I recently puchased a Stevens Favorite 1915 model in .25 Rimfire. I intend to convert it to 22 Long Rifle by installing a new barrel. My possibly problem is if the firing pin located in the breech block (small round firing pin) will be able to ignite the smaller 22 rimfire. I know I need a 22 extractor. Does anyone have any experience with a conversion like this? Also where can the extractor be purchased, Numrich is out of them. Thank you for any help. The barrel will eventually be 1 1/4" octagon. What would a good length be, I'm going for accuracy. And I'd also like to restore the rifle to original condition. 25 rimfire ammo is like $50 a box.

Why 22 rimfire. I have heard of about 15 conversions to centerfire pistol ammo. The cf conversion requires #1 weld up old firing pin & retaining screw holes #2 a drill press for new ones. I have seen both 25 & 32 done this way. Check both colt and remmington 25 cal short and see which is closest to your chamber. A cerrosafe cast of your chamber would be a good idea. A 25 cal SS would make a cute little rifle.

Hi Glennc.
have you considered the 22wmr that is a 25 cal case and would solve the problem with the xtractor and the firing pin, that is if the original 25 cal is actually a 25 dia case.
good luck

Thanks for your response, RR and Griff. What I really would like to do would be to chamber this rifle for 22 Hornet, but if wishes were fishes...... I chose the 22 LR just because it was cheap and available. Would the barrel/action withstand the pressure of a 22 WMR(that is a 22 rimfire magnum)? Does either of you know the diameter of the 22WMR rim? I wish to keep the rifle in restorable to original condition. Just happen to have another receiver that I had glass bead blasted, and also another falling block, but it too is from a 25 rimfire, so I'll purchase a new barrel.
Thanks again
