So today I'm wasting time at the local gunshop, see what appears to be a commerical Mauser action - except the floorplate metal is quite unique. The hinge is different, and the locking mechanism is tiny, and on the outside of the triggerguard. Looks nice. The rifle appears to be unfired, in 30-06, plugs are still in the receiver scope mounting holes, decent walnut stock with some safe damage, and a little bluing wear on the muzzle. Colt "Coltsman" on the barrel, no markings on the receiver that I recognize. Any idea what its worth? I really like the bottom metal, but would hate to chop up this nice rifle for one of my projects. | ||

They were made on commercial FN actions, similar to others of the period like Higgins, Wards, Browning, H&R, Marlin, etc. The Colt inscription seems to put a little premium on their value, and they are fairly scarce. I bought one off a table in Tulsa for $315, sold it for $450, Cabela's is reaching but they seem to be able to get away with it. I would not chop it up either, other than maybe restock.
