I see Remington has brought out a new bolt action rifle, the model 783. It appears to be a replacement for the 770 rifle. If that is the case it would have to be an improvement, wouldn't it? It appears to have a cylinrical action with the barrel fitted with an action nut similar to Savage's. Plastic stock of course. I think it has a detachable magazine although the picture I seen doesn't show that for sure. Has anyone seen one of these? Comments?

Aren't they both just a revamped model 710? Steve E.............. NRA Patron Life Member GOA Life Member North American Hunting Club Life Member USAF Veteran

I saw one in the show case at Wal-Mart last Saturday. Didn't handle or fondle it though. It did have a clip as I recall. I didn't notice a barrel nut but it could have had one. It appears that Remington, Savage, and I believe Ruger also, have realized the cost savings and functionality of essentially duplicating the Tikka T3 action design. All of which are true cylindrical actions. I believe Remington was producing the cylindrical M721 (predecessor to the M700) action in 1948. Savage introduced the cylindrical action M110 in 1958. The shoe may be on the other foot.
Steve E.............. No. The M783 is a barrel nut design like the Savage and Mossberg offerings. Totally different conventional design vs the 710-715-770 series where the bolt head locked into the barrel. The M770 "receiver" is actually just a bolt guide and means to mount a scope; it provides little if any strength to the system.
