Are these actions still good as a basis to a nice little sporter?

What do you think such an action be worth? It's apparently in really good shape.

What's a good choice of cartridge for it, other than the 308 or 243? Right now, if I do a project with it, I'm thinking of something in 6.5mm.

Thanks,
KB

I estimate about $400. There is a trade involved, and I'm estimating how much I'll have in the action when the dust settles.

I'm a huge fan. Do it! tu2

My only beef with SAKO is that I don't like the tapered dovetail scope mounts. They do make interesting semi-custom sporters. .260 Rem, maybe?

Finding complete sako actions is getting tough, I always figure a minimum price for a SAKO is $500. I think $400 is a great price, as long as it's complete and in good condition.

Absolutely beautiful little actions, just larger version of the L46 and with a straddle floorplate if I remember corretly. Absolutely love them, $400 would not even think twice.

Good luck, if you don't want it, let us know where to buy it!

Thanks.

Yea. Thanks. I felt pretty comfortable with it, but just looking for reassurance. The main thing is that I don't NEED it, but I WANT it, so I justify it only if it's a good deal.

If I can get my money back, easily, if that's what I decide that I need to do for some reason, then that's OK.

It's a pretty little action, and it's clean and complete. It does have the straddle floorplate. I sorta like the safety on it, at least better than the later model the L579.

Another thing in its favor is that it appears that the trigger is gonna be good. It's adjustable and crisp.

It seems to me that it ain't easy anymore to get a darn good action for $400 or less that comes with a good trigger, good safety, and nice bottom metal, and it doesn't need trueing in any way - lugs and bolt face and extractor, and receiver face all look fine. It's really nice when an action just needs a barrel and a stock.
