I wrongly assumed that FP10 was like breakfree but better. Maybe it is better as a lube but i am unsure if it is a rust preventative. anyone know

FP10 is a CLP - Cleaner, Lube, Protectant. Kimber and a few other manufactures recommend it in their owners manuals for their guns. I believe the military is now useing it also.

You didn't "wrongly" assume. It IS better than BreakFree, as both a lube and protectant.

FP10 is a great product, and I prefer it myself for lubrication purposes. It'll also do a fine job of rust protection, but I don't recommend it for that. The reason is that it's too heavy, and it attracts too much dust.

For rust protection I strongly recommend Birchwood Casey's Sheath. I started using Sheath thirty years ago, and to this day I haven't found anything better for day-in and day-out rust protection. I like it because it removes firgerprints and other contaminates from the surface, gets inside the pores (it's thin), stays in place, won't run, and doesn't attract nearly as much dust as other preventives. I've even used in on blued metal for coastal Alaskan hunting where it would rain every day of the hunt, and without a spot of rust developing.
