In general the answer is yes. Both the 8x60S and 8x64S were designed to be fit into Mauser actions, and the intention was that it would be easy to convert guns in 8x57IS to either of the two. The 8x60S was specifically designed as a workaround to the 8x57IS becoming illegal in Germany - was it after WWI?

That said, one naturally always has to assess the gun to be converted. Is the gun in good condition, and the convertion thus safe??

That's what I was going to do with my 8x57mm. I sent it off to the gunsmith (who was having trouble locating reamers for the project) and while we were waiting for a reamer he slugged the barrel on my request. It turned out to be a J barrel and not a JS. Since I knew the .318 calibre would be a pain in the ass, I had it rebarrelled to 9.3 x 62mm.

I just live here. The rifle is for hunting in Africa, although I would use it on just about anything anywhere. My 9.3 x 62 doesn't have a butt pad and doesn't have any recoil that I am aware of. There is a butt pad on my 416 Rigby.

thank you dave
i am trying yo trade one of my 3006s for a 8 mm js, because the both of the calibers are banned in france and some other countries . i want to make the rifle in civilian caliber, i am afraid it would be difficult to find 3006 cases over there,
