I have experimented with this with a propane torch and pen soldering torches and had pretty neat results. I would be happy to share photos and would like to hear from others that have tried this and OTHER TECHNIQUES (ink for examp;e) to add figure to jazz up stocks.

I remember seeing pictures of SKB employees in Japan faking wood figure by streaking stocks with dilute sulfuric acid with paintbrushes.
