Has anyone installed a barrel band on a rifle without damageing the blueing by soldering.

A band that spreads apart to install on a barrel that has a front sight already on it, and maybe clamps with a screw kinda the same prinsiple as a Control scope ring?

Or does anyone make one or has anyone made their own?

A barrel band from Michaels for a Rem 760/7600 might be what you are looking for.

Talley has them for under $30 with ID from .590 to .890 in eight sizes.

Darn hard to make one for that!

The only one I ever installed was prior to bluing and it was soldered.

I'd try epoxying them on to a blued barrel but have no experience doing it so can't say it's a good practice.

What's the worst thing that can happen?

Buy a Talley blue it with oxpho blue and epoxy it on. I did that on a 9.3x62 and epoxied on a barrel band front sight and rear sight and they are still there. I think it would take a framing hammer to knock them off.

Thansk for the sugestions. Problem is getting it on the barrel with a front sight. I guess if a guy was desperate enough he could cut a section out of the band at the top and slide it through the front site and epoxy it on. Might look bubba with the section cut out

This does look like a option for $15 http://www.uncle-mikes.com/adtemplate.asp?invky=9004470...42&subcatky2=2000183

Most front sights are not sweated on but merely screwed on by a screw under the front sight of the ramp.

Are you sure the front sight is sweated on?

GSP7, Yeah, the last item you posted a link to should serve your purpose. I've used them on M99 Savages without problem. Soldering w/o harming blueing can be done but it's darn difficult for someone without experience and a willingness to accept screwing up the job. First the blue has to be removed from the spot to be soldered then the flux kept off existing blue and flux is about the best bluing remover there is!

As you may know, Brockman's has a swivel base that screws into the end of the forearm.
