to install a square-blade front sight on a '95 Mauser; the arbor is made for 3/8's dovetails, which of course is larger than the Mauser dovetail.

I'm in one place and the rifle is in another, can I use the pusher on the Mauser sight, or do I/can I modify the arbor so it will work?

thx

You can use it to push a sight into place, but if it is wider than the top of the dovetail, then it won't work to push a sight out. And the arbor is very hard. At least the one I have is.

Thanks, appreciated; this is what i thought the situation might be, right down to the "very hard" part.

You'd think Brownells might mention this in their catalog literature, or, after the decades that Williams has produced the SOB, they'd have an additional arbor to cover this.

I laughed in the Brownells tech's face.

I have had one of these "SOB'S" for over 20 years and everytime I use it I cuss it out.

You need 3 hands and lots of luck, but what's the alternative? Believe me, I've been looking for a better way for a long time now....

The part that makes me tightest in the jaw is the marring that almost always occurs when using it.
Regards, Joe

I have two, one for each side of my bench. Never had a problem using them.

-lookin' at it, maybe if the thing was set up 180 degrees the other way, that is, upside down, with a deeper notch in the body. The pusher could be supported from underneath that way- it can in it's present form, too, but the top of the body obscures what you're doing.

So, upside down would gain you a set of hands, a deeper notch would allow the tool to clear the barrel, and the sight, blade, and working parts of the tool would be visible and accessible.

And some kind of narrower slip-on(?) piece could be put over the arbor to use on Mauser dovetails.

Yea/Nay?
