Just wondering if anyone has used any of this...on the phone I was told it is better and faster than Wipeout. I ordered some a month ago and have not rec'd it yet. I was told that my order had been shipped, then it hadn't, and now if I want a tracking # they want to charge $20 extra. Sounds fishy to me! www.coppermelt.com [ 10-12-2003, 18:14: Message edited by: ACRecurve ]

Surely someone here has tried some of this or tried to order some! Anyone?

Got my interest, so I went over and read the website. I have to admit, it sounds like a lot of snake oil to me. I'm no expert, or anything like that, but anything that seems too good to be true, usually is. I just can't see if it's so easy to melt the copper out, why all the major companies haven't done it. The cost looks phenominal, too for a ammonia solvent. I use Barnes CR10 and JB bore paste when a gun gets really bad. I know it's a lot of work, but it does the job. Maybe it does work like they say, and we'll all be using it soon, who knows.

I'm sitting here looking at a bottle of it right now. Its made here in Alberta. It certainly works on copper. It has a lot of ammonia in it which is what I think is the main active ingredient. Open the bottle and a whiff of it will about knock you on your ass. Now I have a headache. I don't know if the enzime business they talk about on the website is for real or just hype. I'd be real leary of leaving it in my barrel for long, but thats just me. I'll stick with my Butch's Bore shine and save the Coppermelt for stripping a badly fouled barrel. Take a drop of it and put it on a copper penny and it bubbles and boils like peroxide does on a cut finger. It hasn't appeared to hurt the barrel I tried it on and did clean it very well so I can't say there is anything wrong with it.

I finally got my bottle of Coppermelt bore cleaner and have cleaned 3 rifles with it. It smells like ammonia but not nearly as strong as the Montana Extreme I get from Sinclair. Works as advertised--I think. Got curious tonight so I cleaned my .400 Tembo with the Coppermelt--took 6 patches and about 10 minutes until I got a clean patch. Then I ran a patch with Kroil through and dry patched. Bore is soaking with Wipeout as I write this. Guess I'll know in the morning if there was any copper left. This seems (so far) to be an excellent product but has the following drawbacks: 1) much pricier than other bore cleaners 2) took over 30 days to get product after order placed and credit card charged 3) owner having trouble getting product to USA This is a one man operation and I hope he is able to successfully get his product into enough hands to make his business work. I was told that if I wanted a tracking # with my purchase that it would cost $20 extra--that dog won't hunt! Anyway, I'll post my results tomorrow after allowing the Wipeout to work overnight. Might not be a fair test....we'll see. Good Hunting, [ 11-17-2003, 03:16: Message edited by: ACRecurve ]

I have used it and it seems to work OK. I can't say if it works faster than Barns, as I have not used it enough, but does the job quickly. One thing I have noticed is that it appears to be water based, as it does not immediately soak into a fresh cotton patch like a solvent based one would. Put a drop on a patch and it beads up till a second or third drop is put on before it starts to soak into the patch. Hart

Well, I ran a patch through the bore of my .400 Tembo this morning and the bore was clean! No copper (blue) on the patch at all. Seems this will be a useful cleaner to use but will likely reserve it for times when I'm in a hurry. Good Hunting,

Wow, this seems to be one of the few occasions when one of our local Canadian guys has created a product that is even sought after south of the border. I'll definitely have to try some of this stuff.

"Take a drop of it and put it on a copper penny and it bubbles and boils like peroxide does on a cut finger. That is probably the zinc in the penny.
