Curious if anyone has experimented with Casidiam coating on barrels. Its all the rage for certain types of extreme pressure parts applications when conventional coatings such as moly, etc. don't work.

Haven't called, they haven't responded to e-mails on other apps months ago. Methinks they are a wee bit busy.

Most plasma coatings are line of sight, and as a rule of thumb figgure 1.5 times the hole diameter for the coating depth (IE: a .30" hole will have its ID coated for .45").
Note that the usages they list are external/large ID applications.

I've been told that it has been done to the insides of valve guides, but can't confirm whether this is true or not. I'm sure there's somebody here who works in serospace or another tech field that has some experience with the coating and its application process.

An industrial outfit isn't about to answer gun questions. They won't usually touch a gun part for insurance reasons if no other. Same for machine shops.

Unless the owner/manager is a gun nut and knows exactly what parts are safe to keep overnight without an FFL, it just ain't gonna happen. Been there done that.

I work for a PVD/CVD coating company, not the one your asking about however.
Also, there is a big difference between coating a 3/8" x 2" bore and a 1/4" x 25" bore

Would there be any benefit to coating the chamber and more inportantly the throat? If you couldn't go down the barrel how about the first 3/8"?

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside
