I know from reading the posts on this site, Blueing guns has been discussed a lot. This is what I want to do. I have a Mauser K98 that I have gotten back in pretty good shape. All I want to do is display it, not hunt or shoot it. I know that over-the-counter blue kits are not very good if you are going to use your gun for a lot of shooting or hunting. Since all I want to do with this gun is display it, what would be a good over-the-counter brand kit? Thanks for any information MauserK98

I would simply have it blued and not fool with the kits As usual just my $.02 Paul K

+1 When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years! Rod Henrickson

How much blueing would you estimate is on the gun? 90%, 80%, 70% or less?

I'm guessing you want to DIY. Forget a "kit" and buy some Oxpho-Blue from Brownell's. Follow their directions and you'll probably be quite happy with the results. If not, send it off and have it pro blued.

Oxpho from Brownell's is the only cold blue I would mess with, but agree nothing beats a professional hot blue. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

NO to both ideas; get some rust bluing solution from Bobster, and rust blue it. It is easy, and will last forever, and look far better than cold blue. I assume you are restoring a 98k and not a K98; let me know which one you have. Or do you have a sporter taht you want blued? Totally different rifles. Also, it is a collectable piece? If so, anything you do to it will decrease the value. Post a pic. And forget "kits".
