Well it finally happened. I shot at a huge buck Tuesdy night and couldn't find him (yet) but it has me doubting my sight in. I shoot a Bar in 30-06 with 150 grain WW power points figure the vel in a 20" bbl is about 2850. I sight in 2 " high at 100 yds and while I don't shoot actual targets, I shoot milk jugs at 200 and 225 yds with no problem. Now my question is where is it hitting (therotically) at 250 -275-300 yds ? I don't know the exact range this buck was at but it was around 240 yds. Any way I like a sight in where I can hold right on a deer and not be so high or low that I would miss at a reasonable distance. I had a steady rest and have shoot deer in the same spot many times but this buck might have been 75 yds farther.I am just sick over this miss, and lost buck I haven't missed a standing broadside shot like that in 30 yrs. !

.358, My "Rule of thumb" for ~2900 fps, medium-high SD bullets, typical scope height, is: +2"@100; -0-@200, -8"@300, -2'@400, -4'@500. At 240, I think it should have been around 3-4 inches low? Regards, Bill

Use this ballistic calculator on your load. It will give you your bullet drop at various distances. It will also tell at what yardage you should sight-in at, for maximum point blank range. This is the maximum yardage at which you can shoot at, without adjusting for bullet drop.
