An older Sako with a FN action doesn't have sights.I would like to know a rough idea what it would cost to put a folding 3 leaf express sight on this gun and have the barrel cutoff and recrowned?

Look at the NECG web site for good barrel band type front sights and express rear sights. My web site has a link to NECG and a photo of a M70 on the first page with NECG sights.

SARCO in Shotgun News advertises a 3 leaf Whitworth type rear sight and front sight combo, new for less than $75. According to Brownells Shop Price Survey, the price range for front sight installation can run $15-$70 plus $15-$25 per hole drilled and tapped. Rear sight installation is listed as $15-$25 per hole drilled and tapped. You can add another $10-$20 per sight if they are sweated on with solder in addition to the previously mentioned charges. If you've got a heavy recoiling rifle you will want them attached both ways.

Barrel cut and crown rates can run between $25-$40.

On average your probably looking at a range of $200-$300 for the job depending on the expertise of the "smithy". I have found with gunsmithing, as with most things, that if you deal with experienced, reputable folks you get what you pay for.
