What's a rational width for a quarter rib for a large ring Mauser? The Dakota rib sold by Brownell's is 0.500" wide.

I use .5" for medium contour barrels and .625" for larger barrels.

Exactly It comes down to personal taste. Barrel contour and diameter should all be proportional.
