Gunsmith to remove lettering on reciever
Can anyone recommend a 'smith to remove the factory name on a Charles Daly mauser action?

The letters are deep enough that I suspect you might have to TIG weld some material over them, and then surface grind it smooth.

Thanks,

Garrett

Tom Burgess (Systeme98) can sure do it. He removed the "billboard" from my CZ550.

Unlike the CZ550, that Daly action isn't worth the cost of removing the lettering.

Word to the wise...check with the BATF before you try to do this, or try to have it done.

Refer to Title 26, United States Code, Chapter 53(b), section #5842: “Identification of Firearms.â€

FLA 3006 's action was not a FIREARM. It was MECHANICALLY tested, ( as the old F.N. actions [only] were)
Thus the legend on the lower L.H.side flat of Rec. 3800 bar. FN Claimed their mechanical proof of the action only( just the stripped bolt in the receiver) was subjected to 25 tonnes of pressure for some calibrated length of time and that this was equivalent to a 125K PSI proof load. The lug seats set back were close to the same in rifles as the receivers. Whoever puts a barrel on the action and FIRES it makes a firearm. It has then lost it's maidenhead and the Feds are rather certain that they can prove it. I have no ideas on the C Daly's. This is all about collecting the excise tax so that fish and wildlife can buy properties and commence lawsuits over things like snail darters or a 30 square mile island in the Pacific, during Pres Clinton regime.

Come to think of it, I have heard of that particular “test†being done on some receivers! thumb
