I spoke with Granite Mountain about their Small Ring Actions, the basics are as follows: 1) 1.30" Ring Diameter 2) 30-06 length and 375 length actions. 3) 30-06 length approximate weight, 3 lbs. Was wondering if any of you have experience with this size GMA action? Looking for a DSB Mauser. I know about the Brno 21 and ZG 47, if there are other options please let me know. Thanks, jjs

What exactly is a ...DSB Mauser...? Ralf recently told me that he has some Brno actions, I know he got one 21 that was mine from a guy who traded me out of some goodies and then sold them. Are you in need of a companion to that sublime .404?

Dewey, DSB - Double Square Bridge. Yes, always intended to have a companion for the 404. Originally, thought was a 375 H&H but now thinking more North America and Plains Game rifle. I have spoken with Ralf about the second rifle but I need to settle on caliber/chambering before the platform is chosen. Been thinking about a few alternatives, mainly classic chamberings. 300 H&H 7x57 375 H&H I currently have three (3) 375 H&Hs. A CRF Winchester post 64, a Browning FN (1965 LE) that will go to Tanzania with me next month, and a beautiful old Hoffman Arms, circa 1927. It may take three rifles to do what I really want. If the 333 Jeffery was commerically available, it would be on the list. Suggestions? Thanks, jjs

"If there are any other options please let me know" I don't know if he has any in stock ready to go, but Stuart Satterlee makes a small ring mauser action. And it appears to be a double square bridge. http://www.satterleearms.com/375_length.htm

Given that you hunt in "Darkest Africa" and the Granite Mtn. action is available in a .375H&H length and a smallring, the only choice, to my mind, is the superb .300H&H. I was given a steal on a near mint P-64 in this chambering last spring by a good friend and it is currently having a Borden-Rimrock installed to match the one on my last P-64-.375H&H, also very sanitary. Heresy, well, until you have hunted the mountains of the BC coast, especially from the tip of Vancouver Island north to the Portland Canal-AK border, you ain't seen WET! I am at only two .375s, had three P-64s and a Browning FN-LE at once, plus five Alaskans in .338WM and I KNOW the symptoms of the addiction, only TOO bloody well! The Hoffman sounds like a gem, I had a chance to buy a near-mint one some years ago and now wish I had done so, it was an '06. Hindsight, ya know......duh! So, them's my thoughts on it, I would have Ralf do a matching .300 and also, have Jan in his shop install a Micky synthetic for hunting in AK or BC.....you should see Vancouver, today, it is maybe 40* and pouring with winds driving the rain sideways in gusts.....and, this is only October! A new buddy and I are going to V.I. for Blacktails in mid-Nov. and it will be a wet and wild one...but, I love that meat better than any wild game except a good dry cow Elk and they are such fun to hunt. I usually take one or two of my "classic" wooden stocked rifles, such as my MS or Obie or ZG, etc. and a sts. tubed, Edge stocked P-64-.270Win. for getting into the soaking bush where the bucks stay after opening day. Let us know what you decide, I absolutely love your .404 and a .300H&H mate would be "cool" beyond compare.
