Is it possible to have marble cake, feather crotch & fiddle back all in the same stock? What should one expect from the different grades starting with bottom scale plain plywood/boat paddle nofigure all the way to the top grades? Also does one type of wood lend itself to a figure pattern more than others?I know i have seen some nice black zebra striped figure in some turkish and circassian walnut . What about french walnut can it have some super figure/strips/feather/fiddleback too?I like french walnut but havent seen any xxxx french before like some of the other walnuts........ Also What part of the tree does burl figure come from?Base by the roots?

in really general terms - a burl is a growth on the side of the tree. crotch is where a large limb comes out. marblecake is generally from the taproot. the crotch I find while pretty isn't very stable. burl is OK but can have big weak spots. The taproot I think furnished the best wood. Fiddleback can come in 2 ways, 1 is ingrained in the wood and the other is by quarter sawing the log. crotch, burl, that thpe of grain is most common in american walnut, claro is noted for fiddleback, french for streaks and marblecake, circassian for marble, dark color and streaking. Wood is kinda like women, the more eye catching it is, the more you're going to pay
