I am looking for a .223 reamer, but I am too cheap to pay for a custome smaller reamer.
Is the .223 match smaller like a 308 Palma?

Have the reamer maker of your chaice send a print of their sami specs 223 reamer and their "match" reamer specs. A comparison of the drawings will answer your question.

Thanks for the response.
I have SAAMI dimensions and tolerances here for .223 Rem cartridges and chambers, but I have no info on ".223 Remington match", which Midway sells:

and they do not distinguish it from thier ".223 Remington":

Midway is sell Elliot Tool Company and PPG reamers, I would contact Midway and find out whose tool is the Match reamer. You want to ask about the throat specs- most will be set up for 75-80 gr bullets.

I want to go in halves with my brother on the reamer.
He has a Douglas XX 1 in 16" barrel.
I have a Lothar Walther 1 in 14" barrel.
We do not want an 80 gr bullet throat.

I sent Midway and email asking them, but that is like calling my mother.

Senor Clark,
Listen to this hillbilly and save yourself some heartache. Send an e-mail to or call Dave Kiff at PTG http://www.pacifictoolandgauge.com/index.asp
Tell him what you want to do. Wait 8 weeks. When the reamer arrives it will be perfect.

Since when did David Kiff take 8 weeks to deliver a reamer? I've never waited more than 3. Aside from that, Clark, I would call Kiff and order the reamer you want. Get some Lapua brass, seat a bullet and measure the neck, unturned. Then order the reamer with no more than .002" over that dimension. And, the throat diameter should be around .2245". Since you are wanting a "match" reamer, I assume you would use the best brass, and have the reamer mated to Lapua brass.

Hi,

I want to buy a .223 reamer and would like to get one that is tighter than SAAMI specs.

I have a copy of the SAAMI dimensions for .223 Remington, but I do not have any information on your product:

http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/938161

Which is ".223 Remington Match"

I would like to find out how that product differs dimensionally from your standard .223 Remington reamer:

Midway got back to me. I could have just called my momSmiler
