I would say its been through some native types hands in a so called third world country. No offence intended to anyone who reads this! In the 1800's any musket that passed into Maori hands was ornately carved although a lot more skilfully than that. In case anyone doesnt know the Maori are the native people of NZ. While it may not be to western tastes the work does look like it was reasonably well done and I am sure that rifle was someones personalised pride and joy. It is a custom job although beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Is it plastic or is it ivory or bone or similar?

I was there when those inlays were installed. I was in Utah and stopped in a gun shop and saw a guy installing those things. Name was Malmberg or something like that.

Well, think about it...when an animal saw this rifle, he became incapacitated with laughter, rolling on the ground and then the hunter could carefully choose his shot & make an easy kill! Some of you are so unimaginative! Tom from Cody

Unfortunately the thread indicates it is in India and there are restrictions about exporting. At todays currency conversion the asking price was about $6000, and I am sure it sold quickly. With a replacement stock, that would make a very desireable rifle. If you sent it back to England and had a factory replacement stock and rework, what do you think it would sell for?

Hmm, since you recently gave me such a warm welcome to the site for breeching etiquette let me remind you of your own preferences on the subject"
https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/...=996104995#996104995 Hmm, seems like you should heed your own advice. What the hell is your beef with Malm anyway? Actually, belay that, who cares, just keep it to yourself.

First, what's up with the bolt? is it checkered and stippled or something? 2nd, I can't believe you people, I learned this years ago. checkered patterns in contrasting color cause artificial planes in the brain (you think you see 3d but it is a 2d surface) this throws off your depth perception. Maybe all of you that have hunted Africa are taking distance shots, this rifle was clearly made for hunting up close in thick jess. See, what you do is when you are stalking so close you can feel the warmth in their footprints you hold the rifle sideways, if you get a fast charge the checkered pattern throws off their depth perception making them miss you, giving you the chance you need to turn the rifle and kill the bugger. That's not mine, belongs to someone on the Indian hunting board, Indian as those from India... The asking price seems very reasonable if it is mechanically sound. The link to the site is in the first post. I originally thought that maybe Chic, gunmakr, Duane, SDH, Soverns, Stratton or one other of our Guild members here had done that beautiful work... I started to out and out blame it on Duane or Hughes, but didn't want to hurt anyone else's feelers...

Theres a lot of damned nice figure in that stock, such as, I can't figure why the hell someone would do that to ivory, or, India, it figures... _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine.
