Which one is more durable? Pros and cons of each? Which is more expensive???

I have 4 rifles and 2 pistols that are Parkerized and the cost to do a rifle is $75.00 and to do my 1911 was $50.00. I have one rifle that was done 6years ago and still look good and is wearing well. most small scratches can be rubbed out with some oil.

A parkerized finish is the most durable and most rust proof....A slow rust blue is the most durable finish known to man and will last a hundred years but it is expensive...Doug Turnbull does a great rust blue...

GonHunting, if you are talking about a bead blasted caustic blue, it is the least durable of any of them. Think of it in a 20 X enlargement, it is a bunch of peaks created by blasting with particles and then caustic blued. The first thing to wear off is the peaks and the rest follows. The most durable caustic blue is a high polish.

But Ray is right the best is a rust blue. From prices I have seen lately for caustic blue jobs they are catching up with rust bluing pretty quickly. Or mine have been to stationary too long.

Back to your original question, Parkerizind is longer wearing than a bead blast Caustic blue but the slow rust blue is even better as Ray said.
