I am looking for a gunsmith that will rebarrel a Chilean Mauser '95 made by Loewz. The guys I talked to so far are either too expensive, or won't do it at all because of the limitations on the action. It has the original 7mm Mauser barrel and the inside looks like the surface of the moon, only worse. I want to rebarrel to .257 Roberts, understanding fully the pressure limitations of the action. I don't want a third rate barrel, although I don't think I want to pay for a Krieger either. The action has been inletted into a real nice Fajen Mannlicher stock and the barrel has been cut to 20" for that stock. I would like the new barrel to follow the original contour to fit the stock or have the 'smith inlet the stock for a more conventional barrel contour.
Any suggestions?

Measure your manhood not by success, but by significance.
mcgowen rifle bbls in ste anne illinois is good also. and they'll duplicate your bbl contour for i think another $40. they're also real fast and they do what you want them to w/o giving you any guff and telling you what you need. that action is outstanding quality and doesn't have near the pressure limitations some self annointed experts will lead you to believe. mcgowen doesn't have a website, btw. still the old fashioned way. i've just got one of the bbls in 257 roberts for a 1916 spanish action. one reason i went with them even tho they're higher than shaw is they have a lighter weight contour available.
It is rediculous that some guys wont do it for you, the "Bob" should be perfectly safe in a small ring Mauser as that is exactly what Saami factory specs stateside defer to.
I would look for another smith near by.
