I just finished installing a NECG barrel band ranp from sight on a customer's barrel. The instructions that came with it specified "...taking an old barrel of the approximate size and beating the..." round portion with a smooth hammer and basically blacksmithing it until it fit. Bull$hit! It don't work. I set it up in the lathe and bored it out to a closer fit and then filed the barrel down a bit. Next came the heat to expand it, slip it in place and let it cool. There needs to be a set screw to anchor it. I got rid of the metric set screw and, with the sight in place, I drilled it out to 8-36 and tapped it into the barrel a bit, thereby anchoring it. It don't move!

I’ve Wondered About The Ruger Band Front Sights And Number 1 QD Barrel Bands. Has Anyone Measured The ID Of Them? Is there a chart somewhere with the part number and sizes?

Hi
I don't know about ruger's own bb front sight. anyway it took my many hurs of working with an old adjustable reamer and now the front sight is sitting on the rifle and looks well. Smiler. now it is time to find a nice reciever sight which can be installed on the ruger's reciever Big Grin

Believe it or not, once you get the fit you want you can glue the next one on with Acraglass. It will secure a barrel band sling swivel, too. Clean-up is easy and if you fit it right, it will be un-noticable after the barrel is blued.
