I'm building a .280 Remington on a double square bridge mauser and am debating barrels. The barrel will be a #0 contour (featherweight), chrom-moly, .284 - 10 twist. Which barrel would you choose and why?

L-N-B, I have had great results from my Shilen barrels. Every gun wearing one shoots sub-MOA. I've never used the other brands, but you must be sure that the barrel is stiff enough to produce the accuracy level you are hoping for. A 3-shot MOA featherweight can be an elusive creature. Take your pick between the top brands- they'll all serve you well. I did hear something interesting from a lab guy couple months back. Seems Krieger was the choice there-- best internal finish.

L-N-B: I have had good luck with Krieger and Lilja barrels. I'm wondering about the idea of putting a featherweight bbl. on a square-bridge mauser. I think this might look a bit odd and the functionality is suspect. If the goal is a lightweight rifle maybe you should consider a G.33/40 action rather than your square-bridge. As a matter of fact, I happen to have a spare G.33/40 laying around and would be interested in a deal that could give me a proper square-bridge mauser. Any interest on your part?

I agree with Forest, go with the G33/40, or build a 7mm-08 or 7x57 on a Mexican small ring 98.

Take a look at Pac-Nor and have Chris make you one with an ocagonal barrel...would look right at home on a double-square bridge.

I'm addicted to Lothar Walter. ------------------

I am a cut rifled fan. Add Boots Obermeyer and Border Barrels to this list. Also K&P Barrels Raton, NM enjoy a good reputation as well. My personal ordered list, for no scientific reason, would be:

IMHO I think they are all good barrels but....I`ve a Shilen in 6.5 on a Mark X, a Douglas in 25-06 on a M70, a Krieger on a MRI Mountain rifle, a McGowen 708 on a M700 and three Walthers. Any questions??
